“Out of the heart of man” Mat.15-18,19. Mark 7-21. Luke 6-45.
Mat.15-19 “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. Mark 7-21 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts and fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries. 22 Deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. 23 All these evil things proceed from within…” Luke 6-45 ” The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.”
Rom 2-29 “….circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit,…”
“The heart of man is desperately wicked, who can understand it?” Jer. 17-9. This verse comes from the Old Testament and states the position of man under law. It does not mean that this position remains the same into Christianity. In fact, the whole point of Christianity is to heal and restore the heart by the Spirit. [HENCE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW]. If such restoration does not occur, then there is no point to Christianity or to Christ. It is similar in importance to “If Christ be not raised, your faith is in vain”.
When a person is “Spirit filled”, it essentially means that their heart is Spirit filled. That their heart is renewed and brings forth the fruit of the Spirit as love joy peace etc.
Paul says 2Cor. 1-22 “..who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge”.
Acts 15-9. “…CLEANSING their HEARTS by faith”.
Man is the origin and source of evil. He was poisoned from the beginning and has spread his poison ever since. But this poison has now been neutralised by Jesus who took its effects for us. [Acts 28-5]. He died its obligatory death for us, so we are now free of obligation to it, instead we are now obliged to Him.
“…every man is tempted when from within, by his own desire [PASSION] [from the now evil heart] he is led and enticed…” James 1-14. Preceded by, ..”God tempts no man, BUT…
This is where the subject of temptation is being explored. It dismisses the idea of God being the tempter, which should, under the popular devil idea, lead straight into something like...but every man is tempted when the devil lures and entices him… But it does not do this, instead pointing the finger squarely at man himself as having a mechanism within that both originates [generates] sin and follows through with its plan.
Paul states this in Romans 7 with “the good I want/will to do, I cannot; it is the evil I don’t want to do that I end up doing”. Rom. 7-5 “For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, aroused by the law, ... 7-21 “…evil is present in me…” [sin is in control].
This arousal was also initiated in Adam by the commandment (Rom 7 – 9 “Once I was alive apart from law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died…”)
The mind of the flesh [old heart] is death, (condemned under law) but the mind of the Spirit [renewed heart] [free gift of life] is life and peace. (Rom 8-6).(8-2)
13. “For if you are living according to the flesh, [wicked heart] you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” [cleansed heart].
[Rom.10-10 “…belief in the heart results in righteousness…” compare Luke 6-45]
