If ever there was a pointer to a strong difference in religions, this would be it. Loving your enemies is to be considered quite strange. Most people operate on the “pay-back” system of some kind, even if it isn’t quite up to “an eye for an eye”. Although often it amounts to the same thing. Enemies are to be dealt with, punished, avoided.
But the leader of this religion says to love them. Be kind to them, give to them, help them. If we have to love our enemies, then what about our neighbours, politicians, lawyers, homosexuals?
An old Testament quote goes something like, “Though he [God]slay me, yet will I trust him”. It takes a strong kind of love to be able to say this? [and Jesus was slain]
Are we the loving kind of people? Or not?
