Apart from perhaps starting all over again by posting from the beginning my posts numbered 1-585? I think I may have said about all I have to say. Crucial issues were the Atonement, where it turned out that it was God’s love that is the active ingredient, in fact it is the ONLY ingredient, and being that he is never unforgiving, it ‘simply’ means we have to avail ourselves of that grace, because there are no barriers between him and us. The INTENSITY of this issue though, is seen in Jesus suffering.
Having said that, there are three important scriptures to do with it all.
The first is the blood atonement scripture. Rom3-25 “whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in his blood through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed”. Now while we may baulk at the idea of a blood sacrifice, it is the only way to encompass the fullness of the meaning of it all. The intention of it is to present both the finality of it, as well as the cost of it by his suffering, and therefore the seriousness of it. [As well as our identification with it].
The second one is James 1-21.”Therefore putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls”.
The third one Is Rom.10-6. “But the righteousness based on faith speaks thus, ‘Do not say in your heart , ‘Who will ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down), or ‘Who will descend into the abyss ?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,”- that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. [It is spontaneity that is life giving, not analysis].
Another issue was about sects and cults, where they disassociate with other Christians through their own error in their misunderstanding of the atonement. There are a lot of these, and sadly the catholic church is amongst them, not necessarily because of an atonement issue, but because of all the other weird and errant doctrinal teachings.
